Earthsong Botanicals is the fruition of a dream.  The result of a deep-seated longing to make the world a better place, if only in some small way.

My interest in herbalism began long ago, but the spark was fully ignited after reading the Earth’s Children book series by Jean Auel—wonderful books that I highly recommend.  I truly believe that the Earth offers an answer to mankinds every ill, if only we know where to look. “The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth: and he that is wise will not abhor them.”  With that belief in mind, I began my quest to learn as much as I could about natural health care—"the old ways". I read everything I could get my hands on, relating to herbs. I enrolled in a two year course in Herbalism at the Australasian College of Health Sciences and graduated with honors.  The knowledge gained there and through self study, has enabled me to formulate the various herbal products that we offer. Herbs and their uses continue to be a main focus in my life. I study, read and learn something new every day. 

Another thing I learned about back then was handmade soap.  I read as much as I could find about soap making (there wasn’t much at that time) and finally decided I had to try it.  So I gathered ingredients and took the plunge.  My family stood around that day watching in amazement—Mom actually believed she could make soap.  With Crisco and Red Devil drainer opener of all things!  Soap came from the store—everyone knew that.  The notion was as far fetched as the stories they’d heard about my life growing up on a ranch; about milk coming from a cow instead of a carton and eggs coming from chickens instead of the grocery store!  But, they were used to me making things, so they watched and waited…  That first batch of soap was ugly, oddly shaped and had no smell, but it lathered like crazy, was gentle and didn’t leave our skin dry and itchy. They were convinced—“store bought” soap was officially a thing of the past. Since that first batch of soap, I have learned many things. The formulas have changed and evolved but the one thing that hasn’t changed is my commitment to making the best soap I possibly can, because anything worth doing, is worth doing well.
